The Jefferson Township Police Department is currently taking application, until these positions are filled.  The qualifications are as follows: Pennsylvania Act 120 and State Certification, Diploma/GED, 21 years of age, valid PA Driver's License, CPR/First Aid certification, Successfully pass a criminal background check, driver's history check, drug testing, and psychological exam.

About

The Background

The Jefferson Township Police Department is located in the County of Mercer, Pennsylvania. The Township itself borders the following Municipalities: the City of Hermitage, Borough of Clark, Delaware Township, Coolspring Township, East Lackawannock Township, Lackawannock Township, and Pymatuning Township. The Township is approximately 25.3 square miles and 0.08 square miles of water, with 39.6 road miles. This Department provides services to approximately 1,880(+) residents. The Department also provides a contract with the Federal Government (Army Core of Engineers) to patrol the Shennango Lake and Shennango River Reservoir.  This Police Department employs two full-time and two part-time officers, consisting of a Police Chief and three Patrolmen.

Our Duty

Keeping Citizens Safe

Jefferson Township Police Department is dedicated to the safety and order of Jefferson Township. Our mission is to reduce crime rates, maintain the law, and protect lives. We are committed to being professional and respectful - responding diligently to emergency calls and taking proactive measures to curtail and prevent instances of crime. The enforcement of all Federal, State, and Local criminal and traffic laws. Upholding the United States Constitution and State Constitution. Investigations ranging from motor vehicle accidents, assaults, sexual assaults, child abuse, elderly abuse, thefts, burglaries, fraud, criminal mischief, domestic violence, etc. Our Department also is integrated with the Mercer County DUI Task Force, Mercer County Drug Task Force, and the Mercer County Critical Incident Response Team. We take great pride in our Community Oriented Policing Effort. Our team of Officers will always answer the call and stand in harms way to protect and save lives.

Programs

Crime Prevention for a better tomorrow

Buckle Up

Our Township sees a high volume of crashes every year, relating to speed, following too closely, and texting while driving. Therefore we participate in the Buckle Up program to help reduce these crashes. Saving Lives.

Mercer County Drug Task Force

Our Department has trained Officers in Drug Interdiction, Criminal Interception, Narcotics Identification, and NIK Kit Drug Testing. We take pride in our proactive policing to eliminate drugs in our community, therefore we participate in the Mercer County Drug Task Force to get harmful narcotics off the streets in our County.

Mercer County DUI Task Force

This Department takes great accomplishment in sending our Officers to be trained in DUI Awareness Training, Standardized Field Sobriety Testing, and Advanced Roadside Impaired Driving Enforcement to take drunk drivers off the streets, therefore we participate in the Mercer County DUI Task Force. Its all about saving lives.

Fraud/Scams

With Fraud and Scams continuing to grow via email, mail, and phone calls, please be aware to never give out Social Security Numbers or Dates of Birth. If you feel that it is a scam, then most likely it is a scam. Report all possible scams to your local police departments. Most reported scams in the area are from individuals claiming to be from the Publishers Clearing House and the Social Security Administration. Help track down scammers and most fraud by reporting the incident to the Federal Trade Commission at 1 (877)-382-4357 or 1 (844)-USA-GOV1.
